KILMOYLEY HURLING CLUB NEWS:  RESULTS Senior NK league Kilmoyley 0-14 V Causeway 0-11.  Played in Kilmoyley on Thursday evening there was very little between the two teams.  3pts separating them at half time and full time. Kilmoyley team Aidan McCabe, John Godley, Sean Dowling, Seanie Murnane, Florence McCarthy, James McCarthy, Tom Murnane(4pts 3f), Jordan Brick(1pt), Conor Fitzell, Ian Brick(1pt), Kieran Regan(2pts), Tommy Maunsell(2pts), Maurice O Connor(1pt), Sean Maunsell(3pts 1f), Sean Godley, sub used Luke Fitzell.

U14 Co league semi-final.  Commiserations to our U14 team who were defeated by Crotta on Saturday evening.  Putting in a great effort it wasn’t to be.  Score Kilmoyley 1-08, Crotta 5-12.

CILLARD CAMOGIE CLUB: Cillard Camogie Club had a very successful ‘Night at the Movies’ and Bucket Collection recently.  A big thank you goes out to all who contributed and those who worked so hard to make both events a success. ALL funds are going towards the upcoming U14 Feile na nGael trip.   Our final fundraiser will be a Pub Quiz at McElligott’s bar Ardfert on June 13th at 9.30pm. Please come along and bring your friends. Spot prizes and donations may be given to any  Committee member.

U14 League match on Mon 18th May Cillard v Tralee Parnell’s was cancelled due to inclement weather.

We done to the U12 team and their mentors  who won both their League matches on Fri. 22nd May.

COMMUNITY CARE LOTTO:  The numbers drawn for the Lotto of the 18th May were 3,4,10,12.  There was no jackpot winner of €5,400.  Two €50 winners were Claire Savage, Lerrig and Margaret Corridon, Ballinprior.  Numbers were drawn by Joe Walsh.  Community Centre bookings 087-1611720.

 

SIAMSA TIRE:  Auditions for young people aged 7-12 will take place on Saturday 13th June from 10 to 2pm.  Audition by appointment only telephone 7123055.

 

SYMPATHY:  Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Mary Foley (nee O’Sullivan) of Ballinclogher, Lixnaw and late of Lerrig who died during the week.

 

GOLF SOCIETY:  The local golf society had an outing to Beaufort Golf Club on Saturday last and the results are as follows – 1st  Brendan Godley.  2nd  John Nolan.  3rd Michael Meehan jnr.  Section B Chris Horan.  Longest drive Eddie Flaherty.  Nearest to the pin Eddie Flaherty.  Thanks to Kirbys Bar Ardfert for sponsoring the event.

 

KILMOYLEY NATIONAL SCHOOL NEWS:  Our World Irish Aid Awards – Congratulations to Megan Moloney, Ellen Cooke, Jessica O’ Sullivan, Shannon Sheehan and Kellie Meehan who represented Scoil Naomh Eirc, in the Our World Irish Aid Awards competition 2015.  The girls finished in the top fifteen in their region and travelled to Mary Immaculate College of Education, Limerick, on Wednesday 20th May where they were presented with their Irish Aid Awards plaque.  The aim of the Awards is to raise awareness among Irish pupils of the lives of children and their families in developing countries.  The children did this by exploring the 8 Millennium Development Goals and the work of Irish Aid.

 

CAMOGIE:  Congratulations to Jessica Fitzell who was selected to be one of four Kerry representatives on the Munster panel in the Gael Linn Inter provincial junior camogie championship which was played in Portlaoise recently.  Jessica is an outstanding and talented player and will always be one to watch. 

 

TIDY TOWNS KILMOYLEY PLANTING SPREE: Kilmoyley should be in full bloom shortly as teams of TTK volunteers went on a “planting spree” at the weekend.  The colour scheme for this year is red and yellow.  Hopefully the floral displays in Kilmoyley will be the best ever this year.  Potting, planting, digging and sowing is strenuous work but the fresh scones generously supplied by John Fitzgerald made it all worthwhile.  Many thanks to Pádraig Regan for offering the use of his poly tunnel.  The judging of the National Supervalu Tidy Towns competition takes place in June and is carried out in complete secret. Results are then sent to all entrants in September. Kilmoyley Tidy Towns are seeking new volunteers all the time. Everyone is welcome to join us.  Dont forget to get planting your own garden, window boxes, floral displays, competition organised by TTK and judged by Liscahane Nursery and Garden Centre.

GAA news 18th May 2015

KILMOYLEY GAA NEWS:  CLIMB CARRANUTOOHIL.  The club have organised a sponsored climb of Carrauntoohil on June 20th.  Carrauntoohil is the highest peak in Ireland.  It is 1,038 metres high and is the central peak of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks range.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who has already climbed or would like to take on the challenge and will be led by two climbers from the Kerry Mountain Rescue.  Please contact John Nolan(0879812676) for sponsorhsip cards and while doing the climb you will also be helping out your local GAA club. This event is for 16 years and over.

SYMPATHY – The club would like to extend its sympathy to the family of John O Connor, Kilcooley who died during the week.  John played junior hurling with Ballinorig in his day. But, it was his generosity in providing a field to the club for training and games which was very welcome and appreciated until Kilmoyley purchased the present sports field.  He loved to see the young lads training after milking his cows and had a great interest in the game right up to his death.  Club members and neighbours formed a Guard of Honour at his funeral on Sunday.  May he rest in peace.

U8 HURLING BLITZES – Our hurlers of the future will be in action over the next three weeks.  These little boys and girls put great effort into their games and everyone enjoys watching them in action in non-competitive games in a fun environment.  All blitzes will take place in Kilmoyley sportsfield with planned dates as follows –  Monday 25th May, Monday 1st June and Monday 8th June.  Starting at 6pm and finishing at 7.15.  Co-ordinator Maurice Leahy Kerry coaching officer.

FOOTBALL – Well done to the Ardfert Minor football team who won the Div 4 league final V St Senan’s on Friday evening last in Ballyduff.  Final score Ardfert 2-08, St Senan’s 0-10.  Congratulations to the Kilmoyley players Kieran Regan who captained the side and Sean Curran, Kieran McCarthy, Maurice O Connor, Richard Flaherty, David McCarthy.  Congrats also to Maurice Fitzgerald selector with Brendan O Riordan and Brendan Courtney Manager.

COMMUNITY CARE LOTTO: The numbers drawn for the Lotto of the 11th May were 1,5,7,16.  Numbers were drawn by Paul O Connor. There was no jackpot winner of €5,300.  Two €50 winners were Amy Murnane, Ballinorig and Mossie Carroll, Snipefield.  Community Centre bookings 087-1611720.

 

DEATH: The death took place of John O Connor, Kilcooley on 13th May at his daughters residence in Beale.  Removal took place from Casey’s Funeral Home Causeway to the Sacred Heart Church Kilmoyley on Saturday evening.  Burial took place in Ardfert Church Graveyard after Requiem Mass on Sunday.  Sympathy is extended to his family, relatives and friends.  May he rest in peace.

 

GRADUATION: Congratulations to the girls and boys from Kilmoyley who Graduated from the various Secondary schools during the week.  Best of luck to you all in your Leaving Cert and your future studies and career.

 

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: Congratulations to the girls and boys of second class Kilmoyley National School who received their First Holy Communion on Saturday last. 

 

KILMOYLEY GOLF SOCIETY: The Society have an outing to Beaufort Golf Club on this Saturday the 23rd May.  Tee time is from 11am to 12.15pm.  Sponsor on the day is Kirbys Bar, Ardfert.

 

KINGDOM COUNTY FAIR: Well done to Amy Corridon and Kate Maunsell, students of Kilmoyley NS who both won prizes at the Kingdom County Fair which was held in Ballybeggan Racecourse Tralee, recently.  Amy was honoured in two categories-Handwriting and Designing a Bookmark.  Kate was presented with an award for her skill in “walking” a calf.  Well done girls.

 

CERTIFICATE IN SPIRITUALITY: For the past number of months a group of participants attended a “Certificate in Spirituality” course in the Ardfert Retreat Centre.  The course was co-ordinated by Sr. Elizabeth and AnneMarie Whelan.  Each week a guest speaker addressed the group on a variety of topics such as Scripture, The Psalms, Sacraments, Ritual and Symbol, Spirituality in everyday life.  On Wednesday 13th May the final night of the course, mass was celebrated by Bishop Ray Brown and each member of the group was presented with their certificate.   The course is being offered again beginning in the autumn and all details can be got by contacting the Ardfert Retreat Centre.  (Monday to Friday (10.00am – 1pm) Tel: 066-7134276 Email: ardfertretreat@eircom.net).

 

TIDY TOWNS KILMOYLEY (TTK): Saol Glan is an initiative of Tidy Towns Kilmoyley where the group will invite a guest speaker to make a presentation on topics related to the environment.  The first of these events was held in the Community Care Centre on Thursday 14th May when Micheál Ó Coileáin, Environmental Awareness Officer with Kerry County Council gave a wonderful address on “Respecting our Waste, Energy and Water”.  Micheál gave great credit to schools and local community groups like Tidy Towns for the effort they make in keeping their locality litter free.  However, he also acknowledged that there is a problem with illegal dumping.  Litter is waste in the wrong place.  Small changes such as proper disposal of litter will have a positive impact on the environment.  He encouraged all present to recycle:-paper, bottles, plastic, metals.  He also recommended cutting down on food waste by being a smarter shopper.  Tea was served after the presentation and people had an opportunity to meet and chat with Micheál.

 

WALKING GROUP:  This Sunday 24th May the group have the Glanageenty Loop-Ballymacelligott walk.  It is approx 3.5 hours of wooded landscape, rivers with some pulls.  Dont forget the walking boots, sticks and lunch.  Meet at An Tochar car park at 9.30am.  Wednesday morning meet at 9am.

 

ARDFERT MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL:  On Sunday June 7th Ardfert village will hold a Medieval Festival to celebrate the Feast of St Brendan.  Residents will awake to see part of the village green transformed into a medieval village thanks to the members of Waterford Viking Historical Re-enactment Society.  A poultry show organized by the local gun club will take place in the morning.  In the afternoon there will be the Parish Pride Championship. Neighbouring parishes will participate in challenges such as jousting, tug of war, pie eating, and log throwing.  Live music will be performed during the festival.

Finally there will be a concert in Ardfert Cathedral that evening at 7.30pm.  Kerry Choral Union along with the junior choir, some 80 singers in all, will be performing in the open air nave of the cathedral.  A Great Family Fun Day is promised.

 

COMMUNITY GAMES:  Athletics & long puck:  Our area athletics and long puck competitions took place on lastThursday evening in Walnut Grove. We had some very exciting races and field events.  Well done to all the kids that turned up to compete. Congratulations to everyone who qualified for the county finals. The long puck will take place on Tuesday 16th June and Athletics finals are on the weekend of 20th/21st June. Thanks to St Brendan’s Athletics Club for helping organise the event and to all the parents who helped on the evening.  Skittle:  Well done to the U14 skittles team which came a respectable 3rd.  Best of luck to our U16 skittles team which will be competing on Friday 22/5/15.  Tag rugby:  Best of luck to the U11 tag rugby team which will be competing on Sunday May 24th.
