CLUB NEWS 13 APRIL 2015

KERRY HURLERS – A massive congratulations to the Kerry hurlers on securing promotion to Division 1 of the hurling league.  They put in a tremendous performance on Saturday last beating Antrim by one point in a very close game.  Well done to Dougie Fitzell, Daniel Collins, Adrian Royle and of course Seamus Regan on their success.  Kerry hurling will benefit from this promotion and hopefully the team will prove themselves well in 2016.  Next up Christy Ring Cup.

RESULTS – INTERMEDIATES Kilmoyley 4-13 V Crotta 0-12.  The Intermediates had their first game of the year in Kilmoyley last week.  Well done to Padraig O Sullivan and Gerald Carroll who didn’t let the team down and togged out to make up numbers.

AVAILABILITY OF PLAYERS – Unfortunately, all players don’t make themselves available for games.  This is an issue that has to be addressed and wonder why they actually pay membership.  Kilmoyley is a strong hurling area and hurling is our game, so players are being asked to make themselves available for the club and show pride in your jersey.  Details of all games are texted out to players in advance and it is only politeness to reply back and let the club or trainer know if you are free for the game.  This goes for all games whether it is Seniors, Intermediates, U21, Minors or underage.  The club will not beg you to play, if you are interested enough turn up and tog out.

CLUB NEWS 6TH APRIL 2015

GAA NEWS – SYMPATHY

Kilmoyley hurling club wish to express its sympathy to the family and relatives of Rev Fr Xavier Lovett who died recently. Fr Xavier was a very loyal and true supporter of Kilmoyley Hurling club. He had an interest in all sports but hurling and football were among his favorites. He was part of the 1953 Kilmoyley team who won their first Minor Hurling Championship by beating Killarney who at the time were seeking their four in a row title.
Also in 1953 Fr Xavier played football with the St Brendan’s District who won the Co championship and he scored 3-01 in this final. He also won the Collins cup by beating Churchill in the final of the St Brendan’s Board and won a senior league football medal in 1955.
Studying for the priesthood in St Kieran’s College he missed the 1958 senior hurling final due to studies. He was then assigned to the diocese of Seattle in Washington and it was five years before he was back to Kilmoyley for a holiday and he played in the Senior hurling final where he held the position of wing forward and won his one and only Co final medal by beating Lixnaw. He played alongside his brother Declan and the late Sean (RIP).
Fr Xavier returned to Seattle where he remained until his death but holidays home to Kilmoyley were a great occasion and for as long as he could he always went to the hurling games and championship games and enjoyed watching the players train at the hurling field. He also visited the local national school on many occasions and spoke to the children about their interest in hurling. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and a true gentleman. May the green sod of Kilmoyley rest lightly on his gentle soul.
