GAA NEWS 1ST JUNE 2015

HURLING CLUB NEWS:  KERRY HURLERS – Congratulations to the Kerry hurlers on their win over Kildare which sees them through to another Christy Ring Final this Saturday in Croke Park at 5.30pm against Derry.  Best of luck to everyone involved and especially Daniel, Dougie, Adrian and Big Jim on the day.  Safe trip to all the supporters who will travel on the day to support the team.

RESULTS – Division 2 Co League.  Kilmoyley had a good win over St Brendan’s last Wednesday evening on a score of 1-17 to 0-08.

U11 played there last game in the NK Championship and were defeated by Ballyduff.  The team put in a great second half and can be very proud of their efforts.

U8 BLITZ:  County Coaching Officer Maurice Leahy organised a very successful U8 hurling blitz in Kilmoyley.  The first blitz took place on Monday 25th with two others on 1st and 8th June.  Nine clubs attended on the first night with sixteen teams and eight pitches used with all teams playing at the same time.  There was a great buzz and excitement as all the teams were playing for enjoyment as it was some of the under 8’s first hurling game.  Thanks to everyone who helped out on the night and to the Kilmoyley U16 players who did a great job refeering the games.

FIXTURES:  Division 2 Co League Kilmoyley V Abbeydorney in Abbeydorney on this Wednesday evening at 7.30.

CLIMB CARRAUNTOOHIL:  Sponsorship cards still available for the Climb.  Saturday 20th June.  Get your cards from John Nolan 087-9812676.  Suitable for anyone over 16 years.  Climb will be led by two members of Kerry Mountain Rescue.  Take on the challenge and help the club while doing so please.

POC FADA – The County championship POC FADA competition took place last Sunday in Ballyheigue Mountain.  Kilmoyley were represented by Aidan McCabe at senior level and Sean Regan at U16 level.

LOCAL NEWS 1ST JUNE 2015

COMMUNITY CARE LOTTO:  The numbers drawn for the Lotto of the 25th May were 1,3,8,23.  Numbers were drawn by Gene Griffin.  Two €50 winners were Eilish Diggins, Ballinorig and James Flaherty, Ardrahan.  Community Centre bookings 087-1611720.

 EXAMS:  Best of luck to all the students from Kilmoyley who are beginning their Junior and Leaving Certificate exams this week. 

 IMPORTANT MEETING RE RIGHTS OF WAY:  An important public meeting will be held in the Boat House in Banna on Monday June 8th at 9pm.  This meeting is in regard to the challenges to the public rights of way in Banna and Akeragh.  We are asking all those interested to please attend the meeting. 

 INVITATION FROM TTK: Tidy Towns Kilmoyley would like to invite young and not so young of the parish to the official opening of our newest establishment at Lerrig Lough ‘The Kilmoyley Insect Inn’. Looking forward to seeing you all at 3pm on Friday 12th June.

 KILMOYLEY NATIONAL SCHOOL NEWS:  Building Safety Competition – Congratulations to Maeve Horan, a pupil in First Class, Kilmoyley who is one of four winners from the Tralee Education Centre, in the Health and Safety Authority Building Safety Competition.  Maeve, along with the other successful entrants has been invited to attend a workshop in Limerick where the children will collaborate alongside a professional artist and writer to create original artwork and writing for a new book entitled “Building Safety.”   Best of luck to Maeve and her family as they travel to Limerick to participate in this exciting project.  Most Improved Player Award – Well done to Mikey Corridon who was presented with the “Most Improved Player Award” by Ardfert Football Club, recently.  Mikey not only displayed a wide range of skills (soloing, kicking the ball over the bar with right and left leg, hand passing) but also a steely determination that will see him grow into a skilful, athletic and determined footballer and Kilmoyley hurler in the future.

 SYMPATHY:  Sympathy is extended to Mary Dineen, Ballinvoher on the death of her mother Bridie Hussey of Tiduff, Ballyheigue who died recently.  May she rest in peace. 

 IRISH WATER SAFETY:  Swimming classes in Ballyheigue July 13–17, and water safety course at Meenogahane Pier, Causeway July 20—25.  Enquiries to 087-7730320.

 WALKING GROUP:  This coming Sunday the 7th June there is a change to original program, instead
the group will do the first leg of the Dingle Way starting at Annagh.  It is a three hour return
of track.   Please have boots and sticks as wet in places and stoney also don’t forget the packed lunch.  Meet at Tochar car park 9.30am.  Wednesday morning outings meet Church car park 9am.
