KILMOYLEY NATIONAL SCHOOL NEWS:  Shoe Box Appeal – Many thanks to the parents and children for their generous response to the “Shoe Box Appeal”.  The gift filled shoe boxes will be sent to needy children in communities, schools, hospitals and orphanages all over Eastern Europe.  Your shoe boxes full of gifts will make a child not only very excited and happy but also valued and special.

Lenrec Recycling – A big thank you to parents and pupils for helping the school raise funds by taking the time and making the effort to bring in bags of clothing and old mobile phones for recycling.  These items will be exchanged for funds for the school.

Art Competition – Congratulations to Mai O’ Connor and Kate Mckenna, pupils in second class who won prizes for their drawings in an art competition promoted by the Sacred Heart Messenger.  The theme of the art competition was My Family.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR KILMOYLEY NS – On Saturday 5th December Kilmoyley National School will be hosting a Craft Fair, just in time for Christmas! The event will commence at 11am at the Community Care Centre.    Festive shoppers will have the perfect opportunity to purchase unique and affordable creative presents sourced from the local arts scene.  Artisans and crafters are invited to contact the school to book a stall where they can display their wares.  All forms of art and crafts are welcome-home baking, jams, garden plants, woodturning, knitting, pottery, photography, paintings, jewellery, basketwork and candles. It’s a wonderful opportunity for artists and crafters to showcase their produce. JC Scale Model farm toys will have an exhibition on the day, as will Shane Brick Hurley’s Limited; you will have an opportunity to purchase Kilmoyley G.A.A. merchandise-always a very popular Christmas gift.  Other stalls already booked will display floral arrangements, jewellery, knitted goods, cheesecakes, cupcakes and specialty cakes.  You will be licking your lips at all the choices available to you.  Donal Dowling will be present with a selection of charming and delightful photographs of the locality.  The Kilmoyley Craft Fair is the one stop shop for all your Christmas goodies-Beautiful Pine scented Christmas Trees and decorated Wreaths will be available, hand crafted sugán chairs, stone sculptures, handmade Greeting Cards for that special occasion, a wide selection of Usborne Books and the aroma of delicious mulled wine to lift your spirits.  While the Craft Fair is a fund raising event for Scoil Naomh Eirc, school principal Áine Crowe sees it more as an occasion to celebrate all that is good, wholesome and outstanding in the parish.  A warm invitation is extended to one and all.  It’s your presence that will make the craft fair memorable and special.  There will be a special guest on the day also.  Santa Claus will be taking time out of his busy schedule to meet and greet children young and young at heart!  Santa is due to arrive in style at 11a.m.  So book your stall for 20 euro either by calling to the school or contacting the school on (066) 7133376 (sterc@eircom.net).

GOLF SOCIETY OUTING AND UPCOMING PRIZE GIVING:  Results from outing to Ceann Sibeal Golf Club which was kindly sponsored by Denis and Margaret Foley of  An Tochar Ban – 1st  J.J. McElligott.  2nd Seanie Horan.  3rd Nicky Cooke.  Longest drive Maurice Quane.  Section B winner Maurice Quane.  Draw on the night went to Tony Flaherty.  Prize-giving for this event will take place at An Tochar Ban on this Saturday night 14th November.  All golfers and non-golfers welcome.

GAA news w/b 2nd November 2015

GAA NEWS:  SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE SEMI FINAL.  Played in perfect conditions in Kilmoyley on Saturday last in front of a lively crowd, Kilmoyley were unlucky not to have advanced to the finals in a close encounter with St Brendan’s.  It was the visitors who opened the scoring with a point from Kevin Skinner followed by a free from St Brendan’s main free taker John Egan.  Kilmoyley capt Sean Maunsell got the first point for us and Shaun Young back in action again after a spell out with injury added a goal and a point to his name in style, which saw our lads go ahead by a pt.  Referee John Hennessy awarded a penalty to Ardfert, but Kilmoyley’s goal keeper Aiden McCabe yet again, pulled off one of his great saves from Darren Dineen.   We had 4 more points in this half from Joe McElligott, Daniel Collins, James Godley and Paudie O Connor before Nicky O Sullivan sent the ball to the back of the net for St Brendan’s followed by a point from a free by Egan.  Half time score Kilmoyley 1-6, St Brendan’s 1-5.

It was 14 mins into the 2nd half before we had our first pt from a free while Ardfert had four unanswered points, but this led to Kilmoyley scoring 5pts in a row from Daniel Collins, Joe Mc, Tom Murnane and Shaun Young.  St Brendan’s added two more pts which would have led to a draw but a free awarded in the last few minutes led to a one point victory for the neighbours.  Final score Kilmoyley 1-12 to 1-13. KERRY CAMOGIE:  Congratulations to St Anne’s Camogie team on winning the Minor Championship Plate final on Sunday v Ballybrown in Templeglantine.  Final score St Annes 7-12 to 2-4.  Well done to Jessica Fitzell, Marianne Nolan, Alanna Maunsell, Clodagh Walsh, Eilish Harrington, Triona Curran, Kristen Curran and to Sarah O Sullivan and Erin Stack who were named on subs.  Well done to Joe Walsh who is training of the team. 

NORTH KERRY HURLING BOOK:  Remember you can get your copy of the North Kerry Hurling book at Lerrig Stores.  Cost €20.  It is a great read and well done to Tommy O Connor on all the work done.  A collector’s item. 

JUVENILE CLUB BAG PACKING – Bag packing event in Dunnes Stores on the weekend of the 13th and 14th of November.  All parents of juvenile hurlers asked to donate an hour or two to help.

JOHNNY ROCHE RECOVERY FUND: On Saturday the 7th of November For one night only in McElligotts Bar Ardfert it’s back to the 80’s with disco and fancy dress (optional) in aid of the Johnny Roche road to recovery fund.  Big Jim will bring us back with all the music of the 80’s with complimentary food. GAA NEWS W/B 26TH OCTOBER 2015

GAA NEWS – MUNSTER CLUB INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP Q/F:  Final score Kilmoyley 2-6, Wolfetones 4-12.  No excuses for our performance on Saturday v Wolfetones. The better team won on the day.   On a brighter side we have some more competitions coming up and we will keep the head high and hurl on. Thanks to John Meyler and his selectors Ollie Diggin, Mike Lawlor and Brendan McElligott and Physio Maura Griffin for all their work with the team.  Of course a big thank you to the full panel themselves for all their commitment and hard work throughout the year, which started early in February.  A lot of work put in two to three times a week.  We have to say a very big thank you to the supporters who travelled on Saturday and there was a great crowd of you, well outnumbered the home side supporters. U15 TOURNAMENT – Well done to the Kilmoyley U15 team and mentors who took part in the U15 tournament in Abbeydorney last Friday night.  They played Lixnaw, Ballyheigue, Abbeydorney and St Brendan’s.

JUVENILE CLUB BAG PACKING – To keep the club going it is necessary to fundraise and the juvenile club are holding a bag packing event in Dunnes Stores on the weekend of the 13th and 14th of November.  Please put this date in your diary because we will need ALL the parents of the underage players to give only two hours of their time to help out. 

CLANMAURICE CAMOGIE CLUB: Congratulations to the Clanmaurice Camogie ladies on winning the Munster Junior Final for the second year.  Final score Clanmaurice 2-7 V Murroe-Boher 1-5.  Well done to Saidhbhe Horgan, Jessica Fitzell, Alanna Maunsell, Laura Collins, Orla Young.  Managers Pete Young and Mike Enright.

DEATH:  The death took place of Eileen O’Flaherty (nee O’Connor), Ardrahan, Ardfert.  Her remains were removed from The Gleasure Funeral home on Wednesday evening to St Brendan’s Church Ardfert.  Burial took place after Requiem mass on Thursday to The Abbey New Cemetery.  Sympathy is extended to her family, relatives and friends.  May she rest in peace. 

CHURCH NEWS:  Mass for Parishioners who died during the year will take place on Saturday 7th November at 8 pm in Ardfert church.  All are welcome.  Evening Prayer and Mass for the Holy Souls will take place during November on Mondays at 7pm in Kilmoyley commencing 2nd November and on Fridays at 8pm in Ardfert, commencing on 6th November. Please return your November envelopes for inclusion in these masses.

WALKING GROUP:  This coming Sunday the group have a three hour circular easy walk to Lyrecrompane.  It has rimmed cliff also wood with paths and streams.  A lovely Halloween outing.  Please have boots, stick and packed lunch.  Meet at An Tochar car park at 9.30am.  Wednesday morning two hour walks meet at Church car park at 9am.  All welcome.

TIDY TOWNS KILMOYLEY:  Míle buíochas to everyone who supported Tidy Towns Kilmoyley’s very successful Halloween Coffee Morning last Sunday.  There was a wide selection of home-made cakes and treats.  Thank you for your generosity and kindness.  Congratulations to the committee members who decorated and festooned the Community Care Centre.  Thank you to all the young people who manned the games stall and to the hardworking ticket sellers for making the event such a success.  Well done to all who worked quietly in the kitchen preparing teas and coffees.  And “bravo” to the children (young and not so young!) who made the effort to come in Fancy Dress. Sonya had a very difficult task in choosing “the best outfit.”  Your costumes added to the atmosphere and your participation was very much appreciated.  And of course hats off to Billy O’ Connor who was outstanding as usual in his role as Fear an Tí.

“THE QUEEN’S SPEECH” – A new play by Mike O Halloran “The Queen’s Speech” will take place at Abbeydorney Community Centre on November 6th to 8th at 8pm nightly.  Tickets cost €10 available at the door.  Best of Luck to Mike and the cast in what is sure to be a great play
